She immediately thought of another cat in her neighborhood that had suffered similar injuries, believed to have been caused by an illegal leg-hold trap. The fur had been totally ripped off his whole tail, the whole tail was gone except for the bones, said Krause, 55. It was disgusting. It was all bloody. It was just shocking to me. Krause, a volunteer with the Brockton Cat Coalition, and her friend, Michele Pollock, immediately took the cat — which they have named Andy — to the New England Animal Medical Center in West Bridgewater on May 23. There, veterinarians amputated Andys tail. The procedure cost nearly $1,800, and was paid by the Neponset Valley Humane Society, Krause said
