The Enterprise of Brockton, Mass. www.enterprisenews.com Local families bring infants back to Brockton Hospital for baby reunion About 25 families who had babies at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital in the past year came back Saturday afternoon to say hello and thanks to the doctors and nurses who helped them. By Jessica Scarpati ENTERPRISE STAFF WRITER BROCKTON — Most parents would say their kids are a handful. But when Ryland Aponte was born five weeks premature in January, thats all he was — a handful. He was three pounds. He was a peanut. He fit right in the palm of my hand, said his father, Yancy Aponte, 26, of Brockton. I was scared because he was so small. Ryland spent a week in an incubator in the neonatal intensive-care unit at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, as Aponte, mother Dawn Lopes, 26, and brother Zavius, 7, nervously watched him gain enough strength to go home with them. Now that Ryland is healthy, 12 pounds and growing, one might think Aponte and Lopes would never want to step foot in the hospital again. But they came back Saturday afternoon to say hello and thanks to the doctors and nurses who helped their baby, along with about 25 other families attending the hospitals annual reunion for babies born there in the past year. I was hoping to see one of the nurses who took care of him when he was a premature baby. They did a really good job, Aponte said.
